💜 Our Story: Building Safety, Hope, and Healing in Northeast Georgia

Since 1995, the NORTHEAST GEORGIA COUNCIL ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE (NEGACDV) has stood as a beacon of safety and hope for survivors and families across Hart, Franklin, and Elbert Counties. What began as a small, grass-roots group determined to confront domestic violence has grown into a comprehensive nonprofit agency providing prevention, intervention, and education for our communities.

Our mission is to promote and preserve healthy, non-violent relationships through compassionate, life-changing services that empower survivors to heal, rebuild, and thrive.

From our 8-bed shelter—expanded from just 5 beds when we first opened in 1998—to outreach and advocacy programs that reach hundreds of individuals each year, NEGACDV is more than a safe place. We are a lifeline. Each year, we provide over 34,000 units of service to more than 1,300 clients, including adults, children, teens, seniors, and their pets.

Our work extends beyond shelter walls. We offer crisis counseling, case management, therapy, support groups, legal advocacy, parenting and life skills classes, and a Teen Program that helps young people recognize and prevent unhealthy relationships before they begin. We also provide safety planning, compensation claim assistance, and community referrals to ensure survivors have the resources they need to move forward.

And because healing takes time, NEGACDV continues to walk beside survivors long after crisis has passed—helping them rebuild confidence, stability, and independence. Even our nonprofit resale store plays a role in this mission, with every purchase supporting client services and programs that create lasting change.

Every act of giving, no matter how small, strengthens this mission. Together, we can continue to create a community where everyone—adults, children, pets, and families—has the right to live free from fear and filled with hope.
