My Why: Standing with Survivors on Georgia Gives Day

Every day, I have the privilege of witnessing courage in its purest form: the courage of survivors who choose safety, hope, and healing. At Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence (NEGACDV), we provide more than just shelter; we offer a pathway to freedom for women, men, and children escaping abuse.

Our shelter doors never close. Our 24-hour hotline never goes silent. Behind every call is a story.  A mother finding the strength to protect her children, a young woman rediscovering her worth, a survivor taking their first step toward independence.

But we can’t do this work alone. Georgia Gives Day is our opportunity, as neighbors, friends, and advocates, to stand together for safety and dignity. Your gift helps us keep lights on in the shelter, provide counseling for trauma recovery, deliver meals to families, and ensure that survivors are met with compassion, not judgment.

I’m raising funds because I believe everyone deserves to live free from fear. Every dollar makes a difference.

$25 helps cover transportation to court or medical care

$100 provides an individual therapy session for a survivor beginning to rebuild their life

$350 covers the cost of the utility deposit for a family transitioning from shelter to stable housing

When you give, you’re not just donating, you’re changing a life. You’re reminding survivors that they are seen, valued, and never alone.

Please join me in supporting NEGACDV this Georgia Gives Day. Together, we can turn heartbreak into hope.  One story, one family, one gift at a time.
