Isaiah’s Next Lap: Back and Better

What’s up, everybody, my name is Isaiah, and I’m a 6th grader at Baker Middle School.

This is my second year in the River City Race Program, and I’m coming back stronger. Last year I drove for Pratt & Whitney and it was all about learning… but this year, I’m trying to level up. I’ve got my eyes on that top spot so I can represent our city at the International Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio. That would be crazy!

This program really challenged me but in a good way. I learned how to use tools, how to build my car, and how math actually matters when it comes to speed and performance. It’s not just school stuff anymore...it’s real.

I used to say I wanted to be an engineer, but I wasn’t sure if I could really do it. Now… I’m starting to believe I can. Especially after going to Pratt & Whitney. Seeing those airplane engines up close and how engineers really work? That was next level. It made me think like, yeah… I could see myself doing this.

We also went to the Atlanta Science Festival, and I’m not even gonna lie—I wish we had more time. It was so much to see and do. That trip really opened my mind.

And Andretti’s? Man… that was wild. Getting on that track, racing, competing with my teammates that just made me even more ready for race day.

What’s really cool is this turned into a family thing. My little sister Jurnee joined, and now my older brother Jeremiah is getting involved too as a junior coach. So yeah… we all in.

Right now, I’m raising support to help cover my race expenses—my car kit, tools, registration, all of that. Every bit of support helps me keep going and get closer to my goal.

I don’t know yet if I’m gonna be an engineer or a race car driver… but I’m thinking...why not both?
