Karter’s Dream in Motion

Hello everyone! My name is Karter, and I’m a 4th grader at South Columbus Elementary School.

I’ve always been curious. I like asking questions, taking things apart to see how they work, and figuring out how to make things better. But since joining the River City Race Program last October, that curiosity has grown even more.

I really enjoy this program because it challenges me...but in a fun way. I get to use real tools and learn how math helps make our cars faster and perform better. It makes learning exciting because I can actually see how everything works together.

Since being in the program, I’ve had some amazing opportunities. I got to visit Pratt & Whitney and meet all kinds of engineers. I’ve also been able to work with engineers during our build sessions, and they’ve taught me so much about how things are designed and built.

I even took a trip to the Atlanta Science Festival, which was really cool. There were so many hands-on activities, and I got to learn new things about science and engineering. And after that, we had a fun team-building day at Andretti’s where I raced against my teammates and played video games with my Nana—that was one of my favorite days!

     

This program has helped me grow, not just in what I know, but in how I think and work with others. It’s helping me get closer to my dream of building my own race car one day.

I can’t wait for race day, and I’m working really hard because I really hope I win. If I do, I’ll get to represent our community at the International Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio and that would mean everything to me.
