Womens Health First aims to support humanity, by promoting and improving women’s health with a focus on providing access to clean and safe water in West Africa.
Besides social distancing and waring of the facial mask, handwashing remains one of the critical practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
However, just imagine not having clean water to drink, how possibly would you even wash your hands to prevent COVID-19?
This brought me back to my childhood in Togo where there are neighboring Togolese women showing the painful daily struggle of obtaining dirty, contaminated water for their families to wash and drink.
My heart broke and decided to expand the WHF project to address the water crisis as our priority. Access to safe water and sanitation is a basic need for human beings. Yet billions of people across the globe are living without reliable access to these necessities of life.
The global water crisis kills 3.4 million lives each year and 780 million people rely on contaminated drinking water sources (UN). Togo is one of the Africa countries affected the most by this water crisis. According to Unicef, 33% of the Togolese population do not have access to clean water.
Women and girls are disproportional impacted; they bear the burden of searching for water, walking 3.7 miles daily to collect and carry up to 40 Lbs home missing businesses or schools (UN).
Women’s Health First is taking an active role to address this water crisis in West Africa. This is our first CWA- Clean Water Africa- Project.
With the current COVID-19 pandemic, universal access to clean water is more critical than ever before.
We can't do it alone, we need your support!
The cost of Water Wells in Africa ranges from $1,000 to $15,000 depending on many factors such as location, type, transportation...
WHF intends to install a large hand pump water well that provides running water for more than 1200 people. This lasts between 35-40 years and costs $10,000 (this includes training on the mechanics of fixing the well themselves).
