Did you know that Georgia is experiencing a maternal and infant health crisis? Of all states, we have the 3rd highest rate of maternal mortality and 6th highest rate for infant mortality. As an advocate for the full spectrum of reproductive justice and women’s rights, I joined HMHBGA to support their work in improving maternal and infant health in Georgia. In the three months I’ve been a part of HMHBGA, I’ve listened to countless stories about the struggles of finding accessible and affordable resources to support healthy pregnancies and beyond. From a lack of support systems to difficulties navigating the healthcare system to unexpected health complications, there are so many barriers that birth givers face. I worry for my friends who are currently pregnant or have plans to become future parents. However, I know that the work we are doing at HMHBGA will bring us closer to creating a happy and healthy future for parents and babies.

Your donation matters so much to helping us provide vital services to Georgia’s families. Every day, our team works to improve the lives of parents and babies with these services:

Pickles & Ice Cream® Georgia (P&I): Through our online perinatal education platform, we offer virtual prenatal and postpartum education sessions, breastfeeding classes in English and Spanish, baby care classes led by professional child-birth educators, peer support groups, and much more. All classes are free and available to anyone who signs up.

Information & Referral Services: We provide callers with referrals and comprehensive resources across Georgia through the Children 1st high-risk screening line, Help Me Grow Georgia, and Prevent Child Abuse Georgia Helpline. Our I&R Specialists go through extensive training covering cultural competency, service knowledge, and confidentiality of client data.

Perinatal Care Packages: We offer free gifts to pregnant and postpartum birth givers across Georgia to encourage positive maternal health and wellness. To support the beginning of the parenting journey, our care packages provide essential items during the prenatal and postpartum period.

Building Perinatal Support Professionals (BPSP): Our doula training program increases the amount of birth workers committed to providing high quality care across our state. A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a mother before, during, and after childbirth.

Maternal Mental Health Program: We offer a space for community mothers to connect, learn, and heal in our confidential support groups. Led by trained mothers, there are many online sessions to choose from and is available to any pregnant or postpartum mother.

With your support, we can improve the lives of families across Georgia.
