Homelessness is not just a statistic; it is a harsh reality faced by countless women. In Atlanta, homelessness surged by 7% last year, leaving over 3,000 women without a safe place to live. Rebecca's Tent, founded in 1983, has been a beacon of hope ever since. Our mission is clear: to make homelessness brief and non-recurring by empowering women to secure permanent housing and fully engage with the continuum of care services.
Nonprofit homeless shelters are vital to the fabric of any community, providing a safety net for the most vulnerable. Our comprehensive approach—combining immediate shelter with long-term support—sets us apart. We don't just provide a temporary bed; we offer a pathway to permanent housing, addressing the root causes of homelessness and ensuring a lasting solution for our residents. Our goal is for our residents to not just survive but thrive.
Rebecca's Tent is the only women's shelter in DeKalb County; it has been a lifeline for more than 2,000 women and prevented 575 families from falling into homelessness. We are proud to share that we have a 75% success rate in helping women transition to permanent housing within six months.
Our team is passionate about helping women overcome obstacles to stability. We operate with a deep understanding of the local communities and regions we serve. By partnering with civic-minded organizations that offer services, we maximize the resources available to our clients. This collaborative approach helps them achieve greater economic, housing, and family stability, making a significant collective impact on the communities we serve.
As winter approaches, the need for emergency shelter becomes more urgent than ever. Since November 2023, approximately 8,000 people have sought refuge in DeKalb's warming centers. With many shelters operating at full capacity, the risk of women sleeping unhoused and in unsafe conditions is real.
With your invaluable support, we can continue to provide life-changing services to women experiencing homelessness. Your contribution will enable us to offer three daily meals, career services, financial literacy training, professional attire from Dress for Success, essential living supplies, and an emergency fund to cover temporary lodging.
Rebecca's Tent is more than a shelter; it is a lifeline.
“Rebecca’s Tent was the best place I could have asked for at the most needed time. It was my saving grace. They helped me retain my dignity. The staff goes above and beyond. Rebecca’s Tent has been a lifeline. They help women help themselves, do better, and dream more.” ~ Former Residents
