Los Vecinos De Buford Highway

Los Vecinos de Buford Highway is a grassroots Non- Profit 501c3 organization empowering Latino immigrant families throughout the Buford Highway Corridor in Georgia. We are focused on our mission to cultivate community, magnify the voices of residents, and grows future leaders in Buford Highway.

Our small but Mighty group of neighbors, vecinos, started coming together to learn about and advocate for their tenants rights seven years ago.  During all this time our organization has continued to serve our community with food assistance, emergency financial aid, and free legal aid for families facing wrongful eviction.

As we continue to grow so do our community empowerment programs. Through a partnership with GA State University we are now offering a Free English Class for Parents in Doraville twice a week. More than 40 parents are currently enrolled in our 12 week nightly course! 

We're also bringing financial literacy and growth opportunities directly to families with our Financial Achievement Clubs. Our 6 month cohorts promote financial wellbeing through our monthly budgeting & savings lessons, coaching, and matching incentives. Last September, 11 adults graduated our 2nd Financial Achievement Club, saving over $350 each. We currently have 38 adults in our Financial Achievement Club Cohorts.  

Last year we launched our ESCUELITAS partnership to bring adult learning and K-12 tutoring to families in Chamblee, GA. This has created a safe space for families to come together to learn and grow.

Keeping up with our Cenas Compartidas tradition,  we continue to host monthly dinners throughout apartment complexes in Buford Highway to build community and bring our voices together. Our "Know Your Rights" and Tenant Advocacy events and workshops keep our community informed and empowered. Families facing EVICTION and INHUMANE living conditions continue to come to us for Free legal aid and support. 

In our annual community events like our past Valentine's Day Food Distribution and our Thanksgiving Food & Turkey Distribution we serve over 250 families with boxes of fresh food and non perishables along with other resources. During the holidays, at our Navidad Con Vecinos event, we give new toys to more than 300 children in apartments in Buford Highway.
