Friends to the Forlorn Pitbulls Rescue, Inc. is a volunteer based 501(c)3 rescue and community outreach organization based out of Dallas, Ga. Our mission is to promote responsible pitbull ownership, provide breed education, combat pet overpopulation, fight unfair legislation, find qualified homes for sound pitbull-type dogs and other dogs in need in Georgia, and help people and animals within our community.

Jason Flatt, President and Founder, began his rescue efforts in October 2009. His purpose was simple: he wanted to save the dogs that no one wanted. He built FTTF on integrity, compassion, commitment, and love. By using these founding principals, Jason and his team of dedicated volunteers, fosters, and supporters – known as The Forlorn Family – grew FTTF into the largest and most well-respected pitbull rescue in Georgia.

Friends to the Forlorn believes in transparent & responsible rescue practices, community involvement, breed & ownership education, spay & neuter, and responsible pet ownership. Over the past 12 years, we have successfully rescued for nearly 700 dogs (along with some cats, pigs, horses, and donkeys). We also have spayed/neutered over 6,500 pets at no cost to the community. We will continue our work within the community because the lives of our dogs, and the lives of all dogs, depend on it.

By pulling at risk dogs from high-kill shelters, FTTF is able to rescue dogs who, without us, would not make it out alive. The dogs we rescue include pitbulls that are on the euthanasia list due to overcrowding, lack of responsible owners and adopters, breed restrictions and complex medical or behavioral issues. They are broken...physically, emotionally and socially. But, they are also resilient. As a foster-based rescue, with close to 50 foster homes and an average of 75-100 dogs in our rescue at any given time, we are committed to providing our dogs with the love, support, and care they need to recover, rehabilitate, and thrive. This is largely thanks to our incredible team of foster homes, veterinary professionals, and volunteers...and the donors who give us the support we desperately need to keep going. Because of them, we have found loving, forever homes for over 670 dogs since FTTF began in 2009.

In addition to our rescue efforts, FTTF supports our community by sponsoring outreach events like "Beat the Heat", during which we offer free spay/neuter certificates to owned pets, free vaccines, and free supplies. FTTF has teamed up with local food pantries and other organizations to provide pet food to families in need. We also regularly offer free spay & neuter programs for owned pets and helped start the feral cat TNR program in Paulding County. Through these programs, FTTF has been able to make a tremendous impact on our community by helping to reduce owner surrenders by nearly 50%, intake by over 70%, and euthanasia rates by over 90%.

Though others have tried, we are now the only pitbull-specific rescue left in the Metro Atlanta area. Unfortunately, the demand for help for this breed is growing, which means we also need to grow and expand our rescue efforts to meet their needs. We provide all of our rescue dogs with high-quality medical care, top of the line dog food and individual foster homes that can give them the love, care and socialization they each need. We do not put any of our dogs in boarding, and we rescue responsibly - they deserve it.

All funds raised through the Saving Pets Challenge will be dedicated to the Capital Campaign for the next phase of FTTF: Our own state-of-the-art, one-of-a-kind pitbull rescue facility & sanctuary. We have secured property, selected an architectural firm, and are moving forward toward our goal of building an incredible facility for our incredible dogs. This project has an estimated cost of  $4-5 million - not something we take lightly - but we know we need to do this. We need to do more. WE NEED YOU. Not many rescues will take in Forlorn dogs, but they need us and we need them. FTTF may be a small organization, but we are a dedicated, determined, hard-working rescue doing big things for the animals and promising to put this money to work. With your support, there is no stopping us!
