Meet Omari! Omari is 20 years old and from Jamaica and currently lives in Savannah Low Country. His vision diagnosis is optic atrophy and Cortical blindness. His diagnoses are the result of a four-year year battle with a benign brain tumor that has left him legally blind and with other ailments. Omari's journey with vision loss began in 2017, at the age of 12 and only 3 weeks into high school. Initially, he took the loss of his vision well, but as the obstacles and restrictions that came with it arose, his hopes and dreams faded. Thankfully, with the help of God and a great support system, he found the motivation to pursue his aspirations. It has been with the Center and the services they've provided, that has aided him on this chapter of his life, "The Pursuit of Success". It has not been easy, but he continues to make strides towards life goals. Omari was specially selected back in the summer, to participate in a special filming project for Visit Savannah. This project helps tourists understand that the City of Savannah is safe for those with disabilities. Omari has also recieved his GED and now works at the Center to help others with vision impairments acheive their goals in the area of Technology. "I am so very thankful to the Savannah Center for Blind and Low Vision. Not only have I received the services needed to help me reach my goals, but they have also taken me in like family. The staff works so hard to create an atmosphere of caring and support." states Omari.
