Melly's Mission

Hi.  My name is Melly.  

Every day, I work to reduce the population of stray and community cats in the Savannah area through Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Return (TNVR). My efforts are focused on Savannah's Eastside and Westside but I and Pooler Paws have assisted colonies all over Chatham and surrounding Counties.

Since 2024, I have TNVR'd more than 60 cats and helped 32 kittens and friendly juveniles find safe, loving homes instead of growing up on the streets. While those numbers are encouraging, they only scratch the surface of the need.

One of my most memorable success stories is Uno, a sweet cat who was found with a devastating eye injury. After receiving an eye enucleation surgery, he recovered beautifully and is now living the happy life he deserved all along.

Unfortunately, not every story begins with hope.

Recently, I found two tiny kittens just feet from moving traffic. They were severely malnourished, sick, and screaming for help while stumbling in circles. As I approached, I realized they couldn't see. Their eyes were completely sealed shut from an untreated upper respiratory infection, and both eyes had ruptured. These kittens,  named Dusk and Dawn, now face the possibility of single or double eye enucleation surgeries just to have a chance at a comfortable life.  Dusk and Dawn

And they are not the only ones.

While I will always do everything I can to save sick, injured, and orphaned kittens, the real solution is prevention. Kittens are adorable, but we don't need more being born into lives of hunger, disease, injury, and suffering.

A recent example is Lucy and Lulu. After months of socialization, I finally secured an adopter and was ready to begin trapping. Naturally, I trapped their mother as well so she could be spayed before going into heat again.

I was too late.

She was already pregnant with nine more kittens.

This heartbreaking reality is happening everywhere. Mothers are becoming pregnant while still nursing litters only weeks old. Babies are having babies. The cycle never stops unless we intervene.

TNVR alone won't eradicate the problem, and I know I can't save them all. But together, we can dramatically reduce the number of cats born into suffering and improve the lives of those already here.
