Chip is our longest resident, our constant companion, and one of the strongest souls we know. He has always met life with a wagging tail and a brave heart, even after being born with genetic defects in his front legs. For so long, Chip refused to let his body slow him down. He ran, played, and loved like any other happy dog. But recently, everything changed.

He began to slow, to drag his paws, and his legs started to bow so severely that his wrists nearly touch. What we are seeing now isn’t just mobility loss, it’s real pain day in and day out. We took Chip to a specialist, hoping for answers. The diagnosis confirmed our worst concerns. Because his bones never formed or aligned properly in their joints, his growing body is now failing him. Chip is already developing early arthritis in his elbows and wrists, and without intervention, this pain will only worsen with time. Now that he has finished growing, we are at a critical crossroads.

We refuse to give up on Chip. But saving his legs requires advanced planning and precision. Before any surgery can even be attempted, the specialist must perform a full CT scan of both front legs and create 3D-printed replicas of Chip’s bones. These models allow the surgeon to perform a “mock surgery” beforehand, mapping out every cut and correction to ensure a real operation has the highest possible chance of success. The cost for this vital step alone is $5,000 — and it stands between Chip and his chance at a pain-free future.
