Hi! My name is Kenna Brown and I am organizing a fundraiser to support the Tommy Nobis Center.

Many of us are in the workforce now, or will join soon. I am sure you can remember being nervous for your first interview, and the thrill and receiving your first paycheck. Our lives are shaped around building a career or finding that dream job, but not everybody is able to have those opportunities for employment. Those with physical or intellectual disabilities face challenges when searching for a job, and this issue touches close to my heart. My older brother, Ty, just graduated highschool and has Down syndrome. The next step for him would be to find employment, but that has proven more difficult than originally thought. Communication, independence, and problem solving are hard skills for those with disabilities to learn, but Tommy Nobis has proved to be a source of education and light for Ty. Through the Tommy Nobis Program, Ty has increased in many skills needed for employment and is able to effectively search for a job.

Ty is a light in our community who was able to shine brighter through programs centers like Tommy Nobis. My sincere hope is that people with disabilities everywhere will be able to continue progressing in their lives after high school, and not be hindered by their disability. I never want someone with an intellectual or physical disability to feel like they are unable to gain meaningful employment. So consider donating to help those with disabilities join the workforce, and make a difference in your community today.
