In 2007, one family in Johns Creek, Georgia collected 65 used bicycles and donated them to North Fulton Community Charities to be used at Toyland for holiday gifts. Bike Alpharetta. a Georgia 501c3 non-profit, took over the community program in 2014 as the request for 300 or more bikes was needed to help families in need. In 2025 the program will be 19 years old and has provided 5,470 bicycles/tricycles/scooters new helmets to NFCC's Toyland, all at no cost!
Individuals can donate new-in-the-box bicycles, slightly used bicycles (light on dust, no rust) as well as new/used tricycles and scooters at participating bikes shops from September 13 to December 7. With the help of community partners, all the items are assembled, cleaned, repaired and made Santa-Ready on one service day, Domestique Day, which will be December 13. Then, all items are moved to Toyland for NFCC to provide to pre-approved families!
Bike Alpharetta is proud to have purchased new helmets since 2014, as it is a Georgia law that children 15 years of age or younger must wear a helmet when operating a bicycle. Safety is a priority.
All monetary donations are used to purchase up to 400 new helmets that are needed this year.
