I began this journey with my son thirteen years ago when he was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I watched my talking toddler change right in front of my eyes from speaking words to babble. Immediately, I went to every blog and website I could find about Autism. The more I researched, I realized I needed to do everything in my power to help him thrive.
Without delay, my son started speech and occupational therapy. He later began taking music and applied behavior therapy (ABA). He attended a special needs pre-school and from that point until now he has continued his therapies as well as received special education throughout elementary and secondary school.
As a teenager he never lets "special needs" slow him down. He plays tennis, baseball, piano and now is looking into employment.
Last summer he attended the EYES (Early Youth Employment Services) camp at the Tommy Nobis Center. He learned about a variety of jobs and enjoyed the experience. I was extremely impressed with the care and instruction that everyone at Tommy Nobis provided for my son.
As he continues on with the Tommy Nobis Center, I know they will be there to assist him along the way with the skills and confidence needed for future employment.
This is why the fundraiser is important to me and so many families that Tommy Nobis supports every year. They provide hope, training and job placement helping young people with special needs thrive. This helps our families and the surrounding communities.
