For our Year-End Campaign 2022, we are sharing a design Salvadoran artist Patricia Hernandez created for us. She calls this design, 'Ignite ... entre tus manos,' and she says: "Entre tus manos" came from a faithful song Latines recognize, not to mention the powerful tool of praying and igniting some faith and hope that one day the word undocumented won't be stigmatized."

El Refugio has been supporting immigrants at Stewart Detention Center (SDC) in Lumpkin, Georgia since 2010. We operate a beautiful hospitality house in Lumpkin, where family members can stay free of charge while visiting loved ones at SDC. We visit people in SDC who would like a visit. We operate bilingual helplines for people at SDC and their friends and family members. We write letters to people in detention and connect via phone and video-conference.

We put money on commissary accounts, so they can call a loved one or buy food and hygiene items. We send books, including English language textbooks, Bibles, Qurans, and novels. In partnership with Koinonia Farm, we fulfill requests for bags of clothing for people facing deportation.

For people getting released from SDC, we provide information for their families, referrals to organizations, and, in some cases, plane and bus tickets. For families suffering financially because of detention and deportation, we provide assistance through our Family Care Program.

We advocate—relentlessly—for the release of all people from SDC, the closure of SDC, and the end of immigration detention.

In short, El Refugio is there for people detained at SDC and their loved ones. We are present. We honor people's full humanity in the face of a system that strips them of their humanity.

Please join us in this movement with a donation. Thank you!
