As the most diverse county in Georgia, Douglas is primed for a depth of creativity that other, suburban regions can only aspire to. Variety forms the underpinnings of a vibrant arts scene by bringing together diverse perspectives into a regionally unique point of view. However, in order to achieve its potential, a vibrant arts scene needs a place to live that is accessible, attractive, and convenient for everyone in the community.
The Cultural Arts Council’s current headquarters, The Roberts-Mozley House, is the oldest historic property in Douglasville, and while it is beloved, it does not have the space necessary to facilitate the vast array of creative endeavors that Douglas County wishes to achieve in the coming years. It was with that in mind, that the Cultural Arts Campus Project was created; bringing together government, architectural, and other local organizations to propose a solution to our community arts needs.
The goal is to bring art, music, food, theater, learning, and fun together in one, amazing place, right on Church Street in Downtown Douglasville. A well-known building has become available, and the town has granted permission to explore its usage for community arts programs. The CAC brought in various architects to participate in a live charette during which objectives were mapped onto drawings in real time.
The Art Center Will Include
- Distinctive architecture to compliment existing downtown structures while providing a huge increase in function
- 340 Seat Traditional Theater
- Black Box/Experimental Theater
- Art Gallery/Exhibit Rooms
- Resident Artist Studios
- Music, Art, Craft, and Theater Classrooms
- A shared Diversity Experience Space in which to feature artists from our community
- Permanent Food Stall Court
- Culinary training kitchens
- Culinary training restaurant
- Office space for facility and CAC staff
- Roof deck social area
- Outdoor green space/sculpture garden
- Fine art storage space for permanent and loaned collections
We Need Your Help
To make this dream, a reality, we have a substantial amount of money to raise, and we need your help to do it. Your investment in the Cultural Arts Campus is a downpayment toward the future of our town. Cultural centers add to the attractiveness of a city encouraging additional visitation and investment. A vibrant arts center will bring positive, inclusive, and safe nighttime activities to Downtown, which will support a feeling of cultural nightlife in the city.
