The National Wildlife Federation has a home right here in Atlanta Georgia. Our regional staff has worked for decades to conserve land, water, and wildlife in Georgia to meet the needs of Georgia's youth and adults alike. As we've met the challenges of a changing climate some of our homegrown successes include Eco-Schools USA in Georgia and Earth Tomorrow Atlanta, a program for High School students. This year Earth Tomorrow Celebrated its 20th anniversary!

Earth Tomorrow participants have made impacts within their communities by:

•           Reclaiming acres of urban forest from non-native, invasive species;

•           Planting hundreds of trees;

•           Building and maintaining more than five miles of trails in parks and green spaces;

•           Installing and maintaining community gardens in BIPOC neighborhoods;

•           Educating communities about nature and environmental justices empowerment;

•           Increasing the environmental literacy of student participants;

•           Advocating for equitable access to natural places;

•           Meeting with local and state representatives about environmental justice issues;

•           Cleaning100,000 pounds of trash and debris from Atlanta’s creeks and streams;

•           Restoring wildlife habitat across Atlanta;

Earth Tomorrow Atlanta is a multi-cultural, environmental education and leadership development program for high school students in the Greater Atlanta Metropolitan area. Earth Tomorrow creates opportunities for youth in BIPOC (Black and Indigenous People of Color) communities to learn about their local ecosystem and environmental issues, become immersed in the outdoors, gain exposure to environmental careers, and develop important leadership skills. Through project-based activities that develop leadership skills and environmental stewardship, NWF connects students to nature and provides them with leadership skills training to help them plan and implement service-learning projects that will improve the health of their urban ecosystem and involve others in solution-focused action. Earth Tomorrow pairs year-long projects through school-based clubs with an intensive Summer Institute to give students a variety of ways to get, and most importantly, stay engaged.

This Giving Tuesday is about Thanks. We want to extend our Thanks to all the Georgia teachers and administrators who have worked so hard to keep our kids learning. We want to thank our partners in Georgia for helping us with our efforts to conserve land, water, and wildlife. And we want to thank our local NWF staff, who have all been focused on driving our mission even in the pandemic.
