Support Tommy Nobis Center in providing opportunities for young adults with disabilities

$800

$1,000 goal

At Tommy Nobis Center, we work to create opportunities for independence through work. As the instructor for our Academy, I work with young adults with disabilities who have graduated from high school but need some extra support getting their first job. Like all young adults, they are itching for independence. They want to find a place where they belong, where they can contribute, and be proud of themselves.

A job is more than an opportunity to earn a paycheck. It's about contributing to your community, having people who count on you and look forward to seeing you every day. Along the way, our young adults gain confidence and start to picture of life of greater independence and possibility.

We spend three months in the classroom, working on communication skills, self-advocacy, work skills, and life skills. We create resumes, practice for job interviews, and go on field trips to expose our young adults to the variety of opportunities that are available to them. After 3 months, we help them secure a job and support them through their 6 months of employment to ensure it's a really good fit.

Working with these young adults is a true labor of love, but it also takes resources. The program is free to our participants, thanks to donations like yours. We are grateful for any contribution to help supply classroom supplies, enable us to go on field trips, and provide the extra staff support our participants need to thrive.
