Friends, Romans, Countrymen (or women or they/them), gather around to hear a tale of intrigue, suspense, and DRAMA!  Ok maybe I’m being a bit melodramatic. But really this is truly a tale about the most inspiring, welcoming, and inclusive community organizations I have ever been a part of... 

Live Arts Theatre in Gwinnett County and now Online! 

For over 10 years, I have been a part of the theater community in Gwinnett County volunteering backstage, front house, and eventually acting back onstage.  Often, I would be cast in supporting roles of “Mom” because, after all, I am a quinquagenarian (50-year-old) middle aged COVID graying hair mom and I accepted my casting limitations.  Then I was reintroduced to Live Arts Theatre.

Quickly I was able to break the norms of casting and found myself onstage in a Shakespeare play, Titus Andronicus , cast as “The Homeless Woman” where I improv the entire play.  Most amazing role ever!  I realized at Live Arts Theatre there were no limitations and challenges were just part of the fun and learning process.  This was not just a local community theater but a family that truly welcomed and supported everyone.

During COVID we have not stopped our theater outreach but utilized online multimedia including Zoom plays, continuing education, and supporting our community members who may feel isolated during this pandemic. Once COVID is over and we resume in-person theater, funds raised will be used to create and build – out a new theater location which, will once again, welcome everyone.
