Reforming Arts is full of gratitude this Giving Tuesday season because of your generous support. We, like so many others have lost so much in the past three years, yet we have emerged with a new understanding of how to build connection, encourage compassion, and offer care to ourselves and other people who have been harmed by traumatizing systems, especially mass incarceration, poverty, and false binaries.

Mission:

Reforming Arts builds connection, promotes compassion, and offers care to people who have been harmed by traumatizing systems, particularly those impacted by mass incarceration, poverty, and false binaries through Creative Intra-Play.

Organization History:

Reforming Arts Incorporated (RA) is a 501(c)3 organization formed in 2010 to provide liberal arts education to people under carceral control in Georgia’s women’s facilities. We began with one instructor teaching theatre in 2009. We added additional instructors and subjects in 2012. In 2014, we established the Certificate in Theatre-Infused Liberal Arts which included a capstone production. We developed the reentry project in 2013 to support our alumni and expand public discourse about mass incarceration. We launched a partnership with Georgia State University Prison Education Project (GSUPEP) to provide college credits in 2017. We stopped teaching in prisons on March 12, 2020 and have developed a trauma-healing focused, theatre-infused, quantumly entangled curriculum for the 21st century.

Creative Intra-Play:

Our creative intra-active curriculum intersects quantum physics, queer and feminist pedagogy, and applied theatre to foster creativity, connection, compassion, and care. This nine-month program integrates quantum physics, somatic therapy, applied theatre, and feminist queer theory to create a liberative pedagogy that frees us from anger and fear and promotes creativity, imagination, harmony, and understanding.
