We are doing something exciting this Summer!

"J" (14) and "Y" (11) are brothers who live in South America and have spent much of their lives under the care of the government and in foster homes. Our hearts swelled from the moment we heard their story, and we are simply thrilled for them to come to live with us for 5 weeks this Summer!

They are coming through an international hosting program (Project 143) that advocates for the adoption of orphans in other countries. While J & Y are here, we will advocate for their adoption. Of course, a break from "orphan life" in exchange for "first-world family comforts" is a pretty special benefit as well. We don't know what the future holds for our family, but we are so glad J & Y will be joining us for this time.

In order for kids like J & Y to come to the US, many interviews must take place. They have gone through interviews and health exams, and their foster mom and social workers have also been interviewed to make sure their time here can be as successful as possible.

Health insurance, flight insurance, and flight/tickets must be purchased in order for them to come, and we are raising funds to cover these basic costs.

We have also applied for grants and have been told that there is some grant money coming soon, but there are more fees to be covered.

Fun fact: You might remember - back in 2016, we hosted a boy from Latvia. He aged out before he could ever be adopted. Thankfully, we still keep in touch with him. He's grown into a hard-working, big-hearted young man, and we're incredibly proud of him.

If you would like to be part of bringing J & Y here, you can make a tax-deductible donation by clicking the "Donate" button on this page.

We have more fundraisers coming soon and can't wait to share them with you.

We appreciate your donations and thoughts/prayers for these boys as we prepare for them to come spend this Summer with our family.

With love and joy,

The Vosburghs

Quilts for J & Y
Cristin will make a quilt for each of the boys and put the names of everyone who donates on a square. It will be on the inside of the fabric (so not seen once sewn together/quilted) ...so when the boys wrap themselves up in their quilt they will be 'wrapped in love' by everyone who has 'loved' them and helped get them here.

Donate $25 or more and your name (or family name) will be written on the back of one of the fabric squares we're making into quilts for J & Y.

Learn more about Project 143

If "orphan" were a disease it would be considered a worldwide epidemic.

Around the world, there are an overwhelming 143 million+ orphan children either in orphanages, foster care or roaming the streets. To give some perspective to the enormity of this number and crisis, this is greater than the entire population of Russia.  Amazingly, using 2020 statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO) if "orphan" were classified as a "leading cause of death" or "disease" (it is NOT) it would be greater than all other classified "leading causes of death" and "diseases" combined.

The Statistics can be Intimidating

  • It is estimated that there are between 143 million and 210 million orphans worldwide
  • Every day an estimated 5,760 more children become orphans worldwide
  • Approximately 250,000 children are adopted annually
  • Each day an estimated 38,493 orphans "age out" of the orphanage system and are put on the streets with no family and no home
  • 10% to 15% of these children commit suicide before they reach 18 years old
  • All face highly challenging and uncertain futures without the support of a family

Can this Problem be Solved?

YES!

It is our belief that there are millions of families around the world who would welcome a child into their home if they truly understood the nature of the crisis and if given the opportunity to simply meet some of these great kids firsthand.  And while nobody can solve this problem alone, everyone can help ONE!
