Celebration of Joy, Happiness, and Love
Our service to families reaches and provides hope. Our 17 Annual Holiday Treat Festival blessed many children. On a crisp wintry morning, our volunteers were motivated and excited to see children receive gifts. Our partner school, E. J. Swint Elementary, was beautifully decorated with holiday spirit. In addition to toys, bikes, clothes, shoes, and other gifts given, food and candy bags were served. Many of the children had a wonderful time taking pictures with Mr. and Mrs. Santa and receiving signed autographs from former Atlanta Falcons Harry Douglas. Parents also had the opportunity to register to vote signing up with People’s Agenda Vote.
Dr. Sharon Jones, the Assistant Principal was very appreciative and proud of this event. She spoke about the sincerity of reaching out to people in need, especially with a phone call of encouragement. Co-owner of the foundation Harry Douglas shared his experience as a youth growing up in Jonesboro with minimal resources but diligently setting goals to achieve his dreams. He emphasized the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people and the value of true friendship. He encouraged parents to create a pathway for their children to become better than them. In addition, train children to give back to the community and children to dream big and believe in themselves.
Mr. Douglas -Vice President encouraged parents to have hope and know that someone will provide help. He stressed that parents must be an example to their children with their actions. In attendance was Clayton County Public School Board of Education Mary Baker (Vice Chair & District 6), Mark Christmas (District 2) recognizing the Douglas Brothers Foundation leaders for their longevity and dedication to helping many families.
Also present was Dr. Dee Haney (District 5) deeply appreciating the good works of the foundation; Gerrian Hawes of South Atlanta Magazine, Zach Klien and Luke Hetrick of WSB Channel 2, and Alieka Anderson-Henry (Chairwoman- Clayton County Commissioner) was present and encouraged community leaders to collaborate to help families in many facets of life. She loves the positive impact the foundation is making in the community.
Our forty volunteers (adults and youth) were remarkable with their service. They demonstrated love and care to the families and willingly worked extremely well as a team. Electric and great sounds from DJ Lotto Ced saturated the atmosphere with holiday music. We especially thank Social Circle Kreative Konnection, LLC for the festive decorations.
We thank our sponsors Clayton County School Board of Education, Clayton County School Foundation, Dream Cuts Barber Lounge, and everyone that donated to make this event possible, especially Chick-fil-A (Dwarf House Jonesboro, GA) for providing food for our volunteers. A special thanks to Principal Sara Stephens, Assistant Principal Dr. Sharon Jones and Parent Liaison Valerie Williams and other staff for their collaboration and teamwork.
Guess what? Our work is not yet done. There were approximately 500 children registered for this event, which was well over the maximum capacity. We served 350 children.
In order for all of us to make a greater impact, it is vital that all leaders in our community, whether non-profit or profit businesses, reach out to help families. When all leaders stay focused on their purpose to serve people, a greater impact of community love is achieved.
Our programs serve majority of Clayton County and the Atlanta metro area. Be a part of “Touching and Changing Lives.” Donate Today. Zelle Donation- tdbfoundation@att.net or you can become a Monthly Donator. Thank You.
Family love and fun are our priority to champion in our community. We extend our love by giving toys, bikes, books, food, hygiene products, this holiday season and throughout the year. Help us give children in need so they can enjoy a great holiday season with their family. Items needed are for boys and girls ages 3-10: toys, bikes, coats, socks, undergarments, boy and girl sneakers and hygiene products. Our volunteers ("The A Team") are fulfilled by serving their community through The Douglas Brothers Foundation events. Any contribution that you make will positively impact children and families. Thank you for your partnership to “Touch and Change Lives.”
