Twin’s story
Twin, aka PJ, is an approximately two-year-old abandoned cat who has been living in a trailer that was hollowed out by a fire. His feeders know him well—he’s normally the kind of cat who runs to the car, rubs against legs, and flops right in your path to demand tummy rubs.
But during the first week of the New Year, everything changed.
Twin didn’t greet them. He had a vacant look in his eyes, seemed to be in pain, and kept rubbing at his ear. By the time one of our volunteers was able to get him safely into her home, Twin was unable to walk, eat, or drink. Even in obvious pain, he still purred loudly when he was gently petted and spoken to with love.
Just one week ago, we were preparing to say our goodbyes—until something remarkable happened.
The doctor saw a little spark in Twin’s eyes. On a whim, she brought him home for the holiday weekend. She continued his IV care, coaxed him to eat and drink, and helped him try to stand and walk again. Slowly… Twin began to recover.
Our local hero veterinarian and staff worked tirelessly to save him. We can’t say enough thank you to Berwick Animal Hospital, and especially Dr. Douglas, for giving Twin a fighting chance.
Surrounded by love and support, Twin continues to get stronger every day. He can now drink on his own and walk—still wobbly—over to his caretakers.
And here’s where Twin’s story gets even better: Twin is being adopted by Cathy, one of our wonderful volunteers. While he will need an upcoming surgery to remove the polyp found in his ear, his future will be spent in a warm, loving home—never again in that abandoned trailer.
