Across Atlanta, a long decline in population, property conditions, and neighborhood economies has led to underutilized and vacant properties and older buildings that are now becoming valuable for new development. With the rapid growth in the development of new residential and commercial space in Atlanta, vacant land for public and natural purposes is diminishing and new development is changing the demographic profile of the city. Two natural systems and many neighborhoods in northwest Atlanta are at the precipice of this rapid change. Groundwork Atlanta is working with these communities to accommodate the needs of both the existing and forecasted population within a balanced framework of natural resources, recreational space, and civic space alongside new mixed-use development within the Chattahoochee River and Proctor Creek watersheds in northwest Atlanta.

Groundwork Atlanta works to promote environmental and economic regenerative community change and cultivate expertise and leadership from within our community to support environmental, economic, and social wellbeing in northwest Atlanta. We work collaboratively with partners and communities through both place-based and people-oriented programs and projects to protect, preserve, and restore or repair natural, built, and social environments from the rapid change driven by economic redevelopment forces. Since 2016, Groundwork Atlanta has become a respected intermediary in the community, balancing their needs and desires with dynamic social and environmental priorities. We implement diverse and interdependent projects and programs at the intersection of environmental, economic, and social wellbeing to boost collective positive impacts upon the community.

Today, we need your support to grow our impact and advance intersectional, regenerative change to protect and preserve community and environmental resources in northwest Atlanta and beyond. Your financial contribution goes toward the operational needs of the organization. Funds support staff, program development, communications, community engagement, and on the ground projects.

Join us in our work to repair past harms, form solutions to current challenges, and foster future leadership to continue changing places, changing systems, and changing lives.
