Help Build a Home for a Gwinnett Family

For single mother Marisela, the dream of homeownership has never been about simply owning a building—it is about lifting a heavy, persistent weight: the daily uncertainty of where her children will sleep, play, and grow. As the mother of four, Marisela has spent the last five years working tirelessly to provide for her family while navigating the challenges of an overcrowded three-bedroom apartment. In their current rental, privacy is a non-existent luxury, maintenance issues like plumbing go unaddressed, and a lack of neighborhood safety means her children cannot freely play outside.  

Marisela has done everything right. She earned her degree, worked hard to establish a steady management career, and spent years diligently paying off debt and rebuilding her credit. Yet, despite her hard work and financial responsibility, the harsh reality of skyrocketing rents in the local housing market meant that a single income was still not enough to secure a permanent home. The security of a home of their own remained just out of reach, leaving her trapped in a cycle of high rent and limited options.  

Everything changed when Marisela looked to her sister—a proud Habitat homeowner. Inspired by her sister’s journey and the stability it brought to her family, Marisela found the courage to apply. When the email arrived confirming she had been selected for the Habitat program, years of struggle and sacrifice gave way to tears of overwhelming joy. For Marisela, selection wasn't just a notice of acceptance; it was the ultimate validation of every late night, every sacrifice, and every effort she had made to build a better life for her four children.  

As Marisela says: "Homeownership means everything to me. It represents stability, safety, and financial relief. As a single mother, owning a home is the reward for all the hard work, late nights, and sacrifices I've made for my children."

Looking ahead, Marisela sees a future filled with the peace and financial security she has prayed for. She envisions trading a cramped apartment for a spacious kitchen where her family can gather to cook and share meals together. She looks forward to a real backyard where she can finally setup soccer nets and a trampoline, giving her children a safe place to play and just be kids. Most importantly, she pictures her children thriving in new schools, having their own bedrooms to grow into, and establishing a firm foundation for their futures.

She is breaking a cycle and creating a permanent, loving launchpad where her children can focus on their education, go to college, and confidently pursue their own dreams.
