Respite is a period of relief for families who have ongoing care-giving responsibilities for a child or adult with disabilities.  As a trusted provider of respite care for people with developmental disabilities in Cobb County, an important part of our mission includes providing meaningful enrichment activities while people are with us for the weekend.

Because of the Coronavirus crisis, we've had to temporarily close our Respite Home.  This means we are receiving no income from fees, but are still responsible for covering operational expenses and salaries to retain the five highly-coveted trained respite staff members.  We're using #GivingTuesdayNOW to kick off our campaign to raise $10,000 to cover one month's salary (4 weekend periods) for the five weekend respite staffers that we covered with other budgeted funds.

Special Needs Cobb has the only facilities-based Respite Care Home in Cobb County.  It requires five skilled and caring staff members to support the weekend program.  Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, Special Needs Cobb offered Respite Care every weekend in a warm, home-style atmosphere supported by these five paid expert caregivers. Those with medical problems are cared for, special dietary needs accommodated, and assistance with physical disabilities is routine. The professional staff, aided by volunteers, is on-hand to provide safe, competent, and compassionate care for clients with disabilities ranging from mild to severe or profound.

Reservations for the SNC Respite Home have been suspended during this time of social distancing, meaning no fees are coming in to cover salaries or other operational expenses.  Normally, fees are based on a sliding scale and some financial assistance may be available for families who qualify. When in full operation, special week-long respite opportunities exist during the summer and holiday seasons.

Please consider donating and giving the gift of peace of mind and support for these professional caregivers who've given so much. Any amount is appreciated!
