Since 1984, Broken Shackle Ranch has been a place where at-risk young men ages 16–20 are given a second chance at life. Many of our residents come to us through the Department of Juvenile Justice or the Department of Family & Children Services. They arrive with difficult pasts—often lacking stability, education, or job skills—but at Broken Shackle Ranch, they find structure, support, and a path forward.
What makes us unique is that we are the only group home in Georgia that offers nationally accredited vocational training through the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). In addition to earning their GEDs, our young men gain hands-on experience in high-demand trades such as welding, carpentry, automotive repair, plumbing, and heavy equipment operation. These certifications are recognized nationwide and open doors to stable, living-wage jobs.
We don’t just teach trades—we teach life. Alongside academics and vocational training, our program focuses on character development, financial literacy, and the soft skills employers are looking for. This holistic approach equips our young men not only to succeed in the workforce but also to thrive as responsible, independent adults.
In the past six months alone, we’ve celebrated the completion of our new Heavy Equipment Operator training facilityand watched five young men graduate our program, walking out with GEDs, certifications, and the confidence to begin productive lives. These successes are proof of the power of opportunity.
Right now, we are raising funds to strengthen and expand our vocational trades program. State funding does not cover the cost of trades training, so we rely entirely on grants and donors to provide the tools, safety gear, and learning materials our students need. Every gift helps equip our shop floors, put resources into students’ hands, and open the doors of opportunity wider.
When you give to Broken Shackle Ranch through GA Gives, you are investing in more than equipment—you are investing in futures. You are helping break cycles of poverty and incarceration by giving young men the tools, skills, and hope to build a better life.
Together, we can turn second chances into lasting success.
