Atlanta Master Chorale is continuing our efforts to develop a more inclusive choral community. We are planning a three-part initiative detailed below to further our outreach to a wider and more diverse audience. These initiatives include outreach to underserved students in our local community, collaboration with diverse arts organizations, and assisting in furthering the career of a composer of color. This project will require significant funding for scholarships, program costs, travel, instrumentalists, and recording fees. We invite you to support these initiatives with a donation.

Project Description

  1. Partnership with The Atlanta Music Project: Atlanta Music Project provides intensive, tuition-free music education for underserved youth right in their neighborhood. Beginning in the 2021-2022 Season, Atlanta Master Chorale will launch a formal mentoring program that matches Atlanta Music Project students with members of the chorale. Mentoring will include music performance coaching for auditions and performances, as well as the opportunity to assist with preparing college-bound students, especially for those who plan to attend music schools. Atlanta Master Chorale will also provide monetary scholarships for students to continue their music education.
  2. Collaboration with The Aeolians of Oakwood University: We are planning a collaborative choral concert for March 2023 featuring Jason Max Ferdinand's famed Aeolians of Oakwood University. The Aeolians and Atlanta Master Chorale will perform a concert filled with choral music by black composers from multiple genres and styles.
  3. The Music of Joel Thompson: Also during our 2022-23 season, Atlanta Master Chorale will welcome back our former member and internationally acclaimed black composer, Joel Thompson for a concert and recording session. The live concert will feature Joel's prior work alongside new commissions, and Atlanta Master Chorale will create the first recording of the "Music of Joel Thompson".
