Housing is more than shelter it is safety, dignity, stability, and survival.

The Trans Housing Atlanta Program (THAP) is a grassroots, community-led organization rooted in more than a decade of advocacy for transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) individuals across metro Atlanta and Georgia.

Every day, transgender and gender nonconforming people face housing discrimination, family rejection, economic hardship, and exclusion from traditional shelter systems. Many are left choosing between unsafe environments, homelessness, or survival.

THAP exists to change that.

🏠 Through transitional housing, emergency assistance, advocacy, and direct support services, THAP provides safe, affirming housing opportunities for individuals navigating crisis and instability.

In 2025 alone, THAP provided 100+ direct assistance interventions. We distributed more than $25,000 in emergency support assisted with motel stays, relocation support, rental assistance, and emergency housing stabilization. We continued building sustainable pathways toward long-term housing security.

The reality is that housing costs across Georgia continue to rise:

  • Extended-stay hotels often cost $2,200–$2,600 per month
  • One-bedroom apartments across metro Atlanta average $1,600–$1,900 per month

For many TGNC individuals especially Black transgender individuals these costs are simply out of reach.

That is why THAP focuses on low-cost, community-centered housing solutions.

💖 THAP gives individuals the opportunity to live in safe, affirming housing while actively seeking employment and stability. Once employed, residents contribute below-market rent back into the program, helping sustain housing access for others in need and supporting THAP’s long-term vision of expanding community housing.
