Hi Friends, Family and Fellow philanthropists -

I am turning 40 this month and I would like to invite you to celebrate with me, but not in the traditional way. For my 40th, I always wanted to host a large volunteer gathering with my friends and family and give back to the community. Through my work at the JF&CS Food Pantry this past year, I heard so many stories of how one month of rent relief could make a huge difference in a family’s life. It could actually be the difference between a family staying in their home or finding themselves homeless.

Last year my business suffered along with so many others, but I never had to stress about how I was going to pay my mortgage. I never wondered if I would have food on the table. I am so grateful. So for my 40th birthday, I decided that the best thing I could ask for is the gift of helping others. And I want to invite you to join me.

Emergency assistance funding at JF&CS is needed now more than ever to help people (Jewish and non-Jewish) with their rent and bills so that they are able to stay in their homes, and the waitlist is getting longer. The money we raise together will go DIRECTLY TO THESE FAMILIES through a JF&CS designated giving site set up just for my birthday fund.

My goal is to raise $40,000 to help with 40 months of rent/utility assistance. The average monthly assistance needed is $1,100.  A donation of $110 provides assistance for 3 days and $252 covers a week.  How many days, weeks or months, you would consider helping with in honor of my birthday?

Thanks to some of my incredible friends and family, I have already raised thousands of dollars to get us started.  I would be so grateful if you would join me in this effort at any level or amount you feel comfortable.

Thank you for supporting me and our community.

Together we will make a difference.

Love, Tara

A few stories of families that have been helped recently, now we can help more.

Client 1

A client recovering from brain surgery was unexpectedly denied disability. JF&CS stepped in with 3 months of rental assistance to stabilize the household while we work to appeal the denial.

Client 2

A client with a history of domestic violence and a child with a chronic health condition was struggling to cover household expenses. Child support payments stopped due to covid related income loss from the ex and she was paying out of pocket for her child’s medical needs. JF&CS provided 2 months of rental assistance while a Medicaid application was submitted for the client’s child. The child was approved for Medicaid making the client able to manage the household again.

Client 3

A single mom with an infant fell behind on rent due to covid-related job loss. The client started working again but was struggling to pay off past debts. JF&CS paid off past debt plus 2 months to bring the client current and provide time to restabilize.
