Ujima Way, Inc. is a non-profit organization (501(c)(3) whose core values are defined by the critical need to support and develop highly effective grassroots organizations and programs that serve high-risk and vulnerable citizens and communities. Our mission is to positively impact our communities by coordinating the collection and delivery of resources and programs that enhance the work of small nonprofits and improve the lives of high-risk and less fortunate individuals.
Our signature programs are in the area of Homelessness, where we coordinate and/or provide essential services, support, and short or long-term shelter and/or housing for persons in Clayton County experiencing homelessness. We provide hot meals five days per week throughout the year and feed an average of 20 individuals per night. Since March 2020, we have served over 12,000 hot meals and helped 63 individuals exit homelessness into safe and stable housing. Through our P.E.A.C.H. Residential program we offer supportive housing for young men ages 18-24 who are homeless, returning to society after incarceration, exiting the foster care system, or in crisis and need housing. Working with various community partners, Ujima Way has a goal of achieving and maintaining zero street homelessness in Clayton County by 2024.
In the area of Employment, we coordinate and provide entrepreneurship, job readiness, career training, and job placement for less fortunate, high-risk, and court-involved youth and young adults ages 16-24. Additionally, Ujima Way provides direct services such as technical support, consulting, program development, and grant writing for small nonprofits.
Our aim is to garner community support in a manner that encourages and promotes cooperative work and responsibility and thus enables us to address issues in our communities as one united force. The organization is based on the Kwanzaa principle, Ujima, meaning to build and maintain our communities together and make our brother’s and sister’s problem our problem and solve them together. To this end, Ujima Way, Inc. aims to establish a massive nationwide crowdsourcing network of comprised of corporate partners and donors whose contributions help support our efforts and the worthy causes of our affiliate agencies who are delivering proven solutions for the betterment of the communities in which we live.
Ujima Way was established in February of 2017 in response to the overdue and dire need for the Black/Urban community to establish high-quality institutions and programs to address some of the most challenging issues we face as a people. Fueled by the hurt and pain of poverty and injustice, and driven by knowing that cutting-edge solutions are already within us, Ujima Way is working diligently to establish a brand known for its high standards in integrity, transparency and world-class support to some of the most high-risk and vulnerable citizens within the community. Ujima Way understands the fact that our communities need more than marches, rallies, and catchy slogans, to truly be the difference we both want and need to see. We also know that major corporate dollars, philanthropic contributions, and charitable donations, rarely trickle down to the smaller grassroots programs working in the trenches every day to be the true difference makers in the lives of our youth and our communities.
For these reasons and more, Ujima Way is positioning itself to play a critical role in transforming and improving our communities by soliciting financial support from like-minded people, willing to put their money where their mouths are, by supporting worthy community causes, and other innovative solutions.
