The Tyler Greene & Taylor Grant Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The Foundation was established to honor the memory of Tyler Lamar Greene and the unbreakable bond he shared with his sister, Taylor. Tyler attended Summer School at Harvard University when he drowned in the Charles River on July 29, 2016. In memory of Tyler, we offer educational scholarships to East Paulding High School seniors and swimming lesson scholarships to youth in the local community.

Did you know that according to the World Health Organization, drowning is one of the leading causes of death globally for children and young people aged 1-24 years? Every year, an estimated 236,000 people drown.

I’ll never forget the night I received a phone call stating that Tyler was in an accident. The revival service at church ended, and I looked at my phone while walking to the car. I had several missed calls and text messages. I called the last caller back, and somebody said that Tyler had been in an accident. My heart sank, and I ran back inside the church. I fell at my pastor's feet and began to cry out. The people inside the church tried to console me and encourage me, but I knew something was wrong. I called Tyler's phone and sent numerous texts for over two hours without an answer. After midnight, I received a phone call from one of the directors at Harvard University. He told me he was sorry to inform me that Tyler passed away. Tyler had drowned. He was only 18 years old.

But it doesn't have to be this way. That’s why we’re on a mission to reduce drownings by teaching children and young adults how to swim and educating them on the importance of water safety and drowning prevention by helping to make swimming lessons more readily available through our swimming lesson scholarship program. We plan to increase our impact in Paulding County and Cobb County by offering 20 swimming lesson scholarships by the end of 2023 and 40 swimming lesson scholarships in 2024. And we're looking for people like you to help us raise $10,000 so that children and young adults like Tyler can attain the necessary skills to be safe in and around bodies of water. Let’s work together to reduce the number of unintentional drownings!

Since 2017, we have awarded over $11,000 in educational scholarships to East Paulding High School seniors and swimming lesson scholarships to youth in the community.
