For many students, the school day ends, but for others—those who walk through the doors of the Together Friends Organization’s Afterschool STEAM Programs—a new world opens up. In these rooms, nestled in neighborhoods all too often overlooked and under-resourced, the sparks of curiosity are not just lit—they are fanned into blazing passions. Our story is not just about programming robots or painting murals, but about the children behind each project. It’s about Maya, a fifth-grader who once believed science was "too hard." With access to our afterschool program, she held her first microscope, peered into a world invisible to the naked eye, and declared, “I want to be a scientist!” It’s about Jamal, a quiet seventh-grader who found his writing skills through film production technology workshops and now dreams of composing a short film.
