Suzuki Strings of Augusta, Inc.

Suzuki Strings of Augusta, Inc. is a community music education program that began in the late 1970s through a partnership between Lois Akins and Carol Lapp, two friends who played with the Augusta Symphony.  When Mrs. Lapp requested that Mrs. Akins teach her daughter violin, the latter embarked on a journey that led to what is now Suzuki Strings of Augusta. The organization has continuously served students in the Central Savannah River Area for over 45 years.

We serve students of all ages in Augusta and the CSRA.  SSA educates students in the Suzuki Method created by Dr. Shin'ichi Suzuki. Our current students study violin, viola and cello.   They take private lessons as well as group lessons.  The Suzuki Method boasts a philosophy that "every child can" learn music in the same way that they learn to speak their native language.  This is why you will see many Suzuki students begin as early as 3 or 4 years of age.  With frequent repetition, positive reinforcement and ear training, along with a strong partnership between teacher, parent and student, every child can learn to play music at a high level, regardless of their innate talent or personal challenges.  This form of education seeks to develop the whole child, not just their music ability and aims to add beauty to the life of the student as well as to the world around them.  Students benefit from the opportunity to develop skills and abilities involving perseverance, focus, public performance, group performance, communication and confidence. 

Fundraisers like this aid in the operating budget of our non-profit organization.   Your donations allow us to offer affordable dues to our current and future members as well as improved instructional programming and new educational opportunities that would not otherwise be offered.
