Protecting our People: “We Keep Us Safe”

Your gift will enable Sur Legal to continue fighting alongside immigrant workers and grassroots organizers in the struggle to end abuses in the workplace and in our country’s inhumane immigration system. 

In a state notorious for its anti-worker and anti-immigrant policies, Sur Legal Collaborative works to provide popular education, training, technical assistance, and direct representation to people marginalized at the intersection of systems of labor, immigration, and mass incarceration. 

Given the election results and news of the incoming Trump Administrations’ determination to enact “mass deportations,” our current priority is safety planning for our clients and the communities we serve. This means staying abreast of the challenges the labor based deferred action (DALE) program will face with the incoming administration and advocating for and determining paths for legal safety for our clients.

Specifically, we are working to determine which forms of immigration relief are available to our clients, ensuring they have protection from deportation in the coming administration, and planning for worst-case scenarios, including ICE raids. 

In helping our clients achieve legal safety through a permanent form of immigration relief, namely through U visas, and engaging in other safety planning strategies, we need to raise at least $25,000.

Our team at Sur Legal Collaborative remains inspired by the resilience of our communities and our allies, and we are dedicated to continue building upon the vision that laid the foundation for our organization four years ago. Although the days and weeks ahead are filled with uncertainty, we hold close the knowledge that we keep us safe.

We stand strong alongside immigrants in the Deep South, who are facing heightened levels of fear and uncertainty around their material conditions and existence within this country come January 2025.
