South Georgia Equine Rescue Inc

South Georgia Equine Rescue is a small nonprofit animal rescue in rural Southeast Georgia with no municipal animal shelter and where cops tell people regularly to shoot the strays or dogs they don't want. We do our best with limited funding and space to help as many animals as we can. We take in the the beaten, broken, and in need of medical care cases; we don't shy away from the hard cases like many rescues in the area do. We don't limit our medical intake to only dogs, out of the 18 horses we have, we have 17 that are sanctuary horses. Some have lifelong illnesses or injuries that prevent them from being adoptable or easily placed, so until that special someone comes along willing to take a horse with medical needs, they remain safely with us. 

We currently have 180 dogs (130 on rescue property with some in foster), 18 horses, pigs, goats, a couple rams, and all kinds of other critters. We have also recently been trying to help with getting feral cat colonies spayed/neutered to limit population growth. We try to have two-three free vaccine and microchipping events for the community to take part in during the cooler months. This allows us to educate and help the community members that may not know resources they have in their area. 

We have no paid staff, including the owner of the rescue, and rely only on donations and grants with a few fundraisers. We are in an area with a lot of low income families and try to help those that need it when we have the funding to do so.
