The Samuel H. Johnson SSSP Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to awarding scholarships to economically challenged students attending college, primarily in the Southeast. It was established in 1999 to continue the legacy of service inspired by Mr. Samuel H. Johnson who founded, developed and directed the Summer Study Skills Program (SSSP). This was a six-week academic enrichment program held each summer from 1961 until 1968. It was the forerunner to the federally-funded Upward Bound program which started in 1965. Members of the foundation's Board of Directors see the giving of scholarships as buying a future for young scholars.  

To ensure that the foundation can continue to give scholarships as well as increase the number and amount of the scholarships given annually, a fundraising campaign to establish a $500,000.00 Scholarship Endowment Fund is now in progress.
