Our Mission Statement

The mission of One Talent, Inc. is to Advance The Gifts and Talents of Our Leaders of Tomorrow. One Talent, Inc. aims to prepare our youth to be well rounded adults by teaching important life skills while developing their God-given gifts and talents. We offer a support system for the older girls who are preparing for graduation, and provide opportunities for them to volunteer and be a mentor to the younger girls. 

 HISTORY AND STATEMENT OF NEEDS

Since inception, One Talent has provided services to over 900 youth, primarily in the counties surrounding the city of Atlanta. Through our experience of providing services to our youth for over a decade, we realize a critical need for mentorship to provide guidance, direction and accountability. The challenges they face are insurmountable. 

Once enrolled in One Talent, these girls become family and quickly develop a sense of belonging; they have found a safe haven. Because of our services, our youth have been exposed to great things they otherwise would not experience; trips to colleges and universities, museums, cultural and corporate events as well as presentations offered by corporate professionals, business and community leaders.

Perhaps most important, One Talent provides a sense of hope, encouragement, love and attention; necessities of life cultivating the attainment of dreams and possibilities. They are encouraged to identify their strengths, passions and interests through our workshops.  With the support of our volunteer mentors, girls develop a relationship with someone with an established career in their field of interest and learn that dreams can be realized.  

We have witnessed this with many of our participants who joined One Talent at an early age and have graduated from high school. They have been inspired to further their education and/or start their own businesses. With the challenges faced, their lives may have taken a different turn if One Talent did not exist. 

As co-founder, Kamilah Burrow, has stated, “Youth programs helped to shape and develop me during some of the toughest years of my life as an adolescent. I can’t imagine what my life would be like without them. My mother spearheaded several of the youth programs I participated in growing up and I wanted to pay it forward.”

One Talent encourages its participants to reach for higher heights, take the road less traveled, and dare to go above and beyond expectations.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

One Talent provides opportunities for girls to: recognize their abilities, enhance their technology skills and awareness, participate in educational and career development activities and experimental learning experiences (inclusive of cultural and social opportunities). The girls have a platform to showcase their talents (inclusive of their oral and written skills).

 One Talent, Inc. encourages its participants to reach for higher heights, take the road less traveled, and dare to go above and beyond expectations. It is the goal of One Talent, Inc. to instill as many positive influences as possible to help our youth channel their gifts and talents in the right direction.
