Open Hand delivers delicious, nourishing meals and nutrition education to neighbors living with or at risk for nutrition-sensitive chronic illness. In addition to addressing hunger and food insecurity, we deliver a comprehensive approach to nutrition care. This includes medically tailored meals combined with evidence-based nutrition interventions that reinforce the vital connection between informed food choices and improved health and quality of life.

With nearly 97% of Open Hand clients living 200% below the national poverty level, we play a critical role in helping to meet their food and medical needs. In fact, one-third of our clients recently reported that, if not for Open Hand, they would have no idea where their next meal would be coming from.  

Open Hand began 35 years ago when a small group of friends gathered to prepare and deliver home-cooked meals for 14 individuals disenfranchised by HIV/AIDS. Today, Open Hand has grown to become the largest community-based nutrition agency in the state of Georgia.

Ultimately, Open Hand clients can better manage their own health and prevent the onset of nutrition-related health complications because of the power of food as medicine. We empower clients to eat healthier, live longer and decrease the need for medical attention.
