The Madison-Morgan Community Garden is a small, volunteer-led, start-up organization in our very first growing season. As the first and only community garden in the county, our mission is to be a welcoming place that celebrates the uniqueness and diversity of our community through personal interaction linked with gardening practices that increase local food sources. We are deeply committed to enhancing community resilience and providing educational opportunities inspired by a vision of sustainability that honors and protects our earth. As Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Our intentions with this project are to create a hub for learning and community building, to provide an outdoor activity for our neighbors in the historic African-American Fifth Street community, and to address food insecurity with abundant fresh produce within walking distance of their homes.
