Mercedes Closet

Mercedes’ Closet was established as a direct response to the growing epidemic of intimate partner violence and other violent crimes happening to members of the LGBTQ community. We are here empowering LGBTQ victims/survivors on their healing journey. These crimes are including sexual violent crimes, domestic violence, hate crimes, and Trans violence (violence against transgenders). 

It is our mission to encircle, embrace, and empower. Encircle and embrace our LGBTQ family members who are survivors of violent crimes, to let them know they are loved and not alone. With our dedication and services, we empower them to rebuild and lead fearless lives.

Below is where your donations will go.

1. Emergency shelter for victims/survivors that need to flee their home in life threatening situations.

We put our survivors up in hotel rooms for up to 3 days, attempt to locate a safe alternative location. Supply meals, and personal hygiene supplies. 

2. Our sexual assault kit fundraiser: we order sexual assault kits that we donate to special victims units and local hospitals each April.

Each kit includes: change of clothing, underwear, freedom bear, toiletries, a journal and pen for adults, crayons and coloring book for kids, and a handwritten note from another survivor.

3. We donate needed supplies to other LGBTQ+ organizations.

4. We obtain guest speakers, counselors, and other survivors for our support group
