Men Elevating Men Inc

Men Elevating Men Inc is a nonprofit youth mentoring program that is focused on preventing the recidivism of first- time offenders in the Juvenile Justice system.  Our goal for these youth after their initial involvement in the system is for them to have no further involvement in the Juvenile Justice System.  Men Elevating Men Inc.  strives to empower these youth by providing them mentors who are strong role models.  Our target population is males ages 12 to 16.  Research from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency indicates that youth who commit a status offense such as running away, unruly behavior or truancy are susceptible to committing another offense.  Our objective for the youth involved in our program is for them to set and attain goals that will assist them with achieving success.  We also provide mentors to youth who are academically at risk and those who just need a positive role model in their lives. 

 The program is operating on the principles of Positive Youth Development, a body of research that suggests that youth benefit from close caring relationships from older peers or adults who serve as positive role models. PYD also stresses the importance of protective factors such as positive peer groups, strong sense of self, future aspirations, and engagement in school and community activities. Men Elevating Men emphasizes those factors as well as others with the goal of producing positive outcomes.  Our program goals are to improve academic achievement, social skills, decision-making and reduce delinquency. Mentors meet with their mentees one-on-one either weekly or bi-weekly from October 2023 to May 2024.  

Men Elevating Men Inc is supported by corporations, businesses, organizations and individuals like yourselves who believe in the importance of and impact of our work in the community.  Funding allows the program to financially help college students with their college education and to conduct educational workshops and activities for the youth participating in our program.  Our volunteer mentors are undergraduate and graduate students in the state of Georgia University System. We award each of our mentors a $1,000 Community Service Scholarship for their eight-month mentorship commitment.
