Welcome to Mary Our Queen! We have a rich history. On November 1, 1994, we began as a mission of All Saints in Dunwoody, meeting in an office park building. Our original temporary church was dedicated on May 24, 1998. In 2008, Father David Dye, now the retired pastor, desired to build our permanent church. On a trip to New York, Father Dye learned about St. Gerard Catholic Church in Buffalo, NY, which had be de-consecrated and was seeking a buyer. The design of St. Gerard closely matched the initial conceptual drawing for our new church. The hope was "preservation through relocation" by moving the entire structure from Buffalo, NY to Norcross, GA. Unfortunately, the estimated expense to relocate St. Gerard was cost-prohibitive. In 2015, it was decided to scale back the project and build a new church, one that closely replicated the 105 year-old Buffalo church, at an estimated cost of $8.5 million dollars. Although we could not move St. Gerard in its entirety, Mary Our Queen has given the shuttered church in Buffalo a second life as a place of worship by bringing artifacts to our new Church, including the stained glass windows, altars, statues, and pews. The ground-breaking was held on October 29, 2017 and the church was dedicated on March 17, 2019.
Our parish has been busy over the past few years since opening the doors to a beautiful new church - renovating the parish offices, renovating the former church into a beautiful new parish hall, building a new parish kitchen, and renovating a space for our youth room. It has been a joy to witness the efforts put in and the life that those efforts have brought into our parish home.
A famous Greek Proverb said, “A society grows great when people plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.” You can see what is planned for Advent here.
Perhaps you have ties to St. Gerard in Buffalo or attended Mary Our Queen in the office park, or recently moved away. Maybe you have a family member that is a current or former parishioner. Our hope is that Mary Our Queen has touched your life in a positive way and that you continue to support us in our mission - Lead all to Christ by living the Sacraments, teaching the Faith and serving others.
Mary Our Queen Catholic Church is in need of funds to build a permanent Food Pantry on our campus. We hope to renovate 2 existing closet spaces in our Parish Life Center creating a permanent Food Pantry. We need funds for renovation, shelves and other items needed to stock the pantry and have it operational the first part of 2021. Please help us feed our neighbors in need by establishing this much needed addition to our Outreach services at MOQ.
