Lake Country Players Community Theater Inc

Lake Country Players are a volunteer troupe of local residents who create productions that bring people together to experience the magic of theater. 

The Lake Country Players, formerly The Greene County Players, presented its first production, The Dixie Swim Club, February 24-26, 2011, at Festival Hall in Downtown Greensboro, Georgia. Founding Artistic Director John Copelan was gratified by the response from lake area residents and a new theater troupe was born. 

The company continued to grow, offering two to five productions each year. In 2012 we added Tasties, Toddies & Theatrics, a dinner theater concept that each season offers a one-act comedy and cabaret of Broadway songs. We expanded from our signature southern comedies to include such popular shows as “Suite Surrender” (2015) and Scrooge’s Christmas” (2017) and Broadway shows such as The Curious Savage (2013) and “Moon Over Buffalo” (2014). The off-Broadway trilogy “Smoke on the Mountain” (2014), "Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming"(2017) and "Sanders Family Christmas” (2018) marked our first ventures into musical theater, ultimately culminating in our largest and most ambitious production to date, the Broadway show “Big Fish” (2019). 

We have been fortunate to have passionate and committed leadership from our talented Artistic Directors over the past ten seasons: John Copelan, our founding director, Carolyn Fears and currently, Maureen Brower.

 In December 2015 we incorporated as a non-profit organization, changing our name to The Lake Country Players.  The new name more accurately reflects who we are, drawing both troupe and audience members from the entire lake area, not just Greene County.

 Our performances are currently held at Festival Hall on Main Street in Downtown Greensboro, Georgia. With 144 comfortable seats on risers, we have the most intimate environment for live theater imaginable. The theater is equipped with a state-of-the-art sound system, and there is not a bad seat in the house.

 2020 marked our 10th anniversary season! Unfortunately, due to the Covid pandemic, for the first time in the history of LCP, the Board of Directors made the difficult decision to move all scheduled productions to 2021. We were able to return to the stage in August (2021) with “Southern Fried Funeral”, a genuinely funny and affectionate comedy and was very well received by our audiences who were excited to see community theater back. This production was significant because it was a collaboration between LCP and PAPA (Putnam Alliance for the Performing Arts). 

In March 2022, our Players presented “Clue: On Stage”, which is derived from the Paramount Pictures Film (1985) was a fast-moving farce-meets-murder mystery, based on the popular board game, Clue. Our most recent production, “9 to 5 The Musical” was presented in November 2022 and is also collaboration between LCP and PAPA. 

We believe that theater, especially COMMUNITY THEATER, matters. And you are an integral part of this journey. Without you, there is no LCP. Because the genius, the “magic” of live theater is the moment in time as the curtain opens when the audience and actors agree to become part of a special shared experience that brings us all together… to laugh, to cry, to ponder, to respond… You support us with your presence, your dollars, your counsel, your belief in us and, at times, your standing ovations!
