JJs Playhouse Children's Museum & Gym

Take a moment and think back to your childhood and the games you played.  If you really ponder those experiences, you learned a lot that helped you academically.  For instance, if you played jacks, you learned grouping from gathering one at a time, by 2s, by 3s, up to all. That benefited you when you got to Math class.  If you played dominoes, you had to count and add up your totals.  If you played dodge ball or softball with your neighborhood friends, you had to keep score in your head.  All these games were opportunities where you learned while playing.  Today, children don't have many opportunities to play and learn. Video games on tablets, computers, and phones have deprived this generation of children of these opportunities.  

At JJs Playhouse Children's Museum & Gym, learning through play is our primary objective. We provide hands on learning programs and soon, exhibits, that promote play while kids learn.  So, if you have often talked about all the times you played outside growing up, after school, during the summer breaks, and even the holidays.  Help us create those same opportunities for children to get back to play.

JJs Playhouse Children’s Museum will be a fun place for children, designed just for them – and it will be a great place to spend a few hours in a child-centric environment.  Children don't get nearly enough opportunities for hands-on, unsupervised exploratory play. JJs Playhouse Children’s Museum, will not only provide that, but we also serve as a lesson for what we need to bring back to childhood, and what we need to limit.

Have you ever lamented that children spend so much time using technology that they aren’t doing what children are supposed to do in their early years of life? Explore their environment. Manipulate things. Develop the motor skills that we know support brain development and directly promote essential hands-on learning which can’t be achieved any other way.

Decades worth of research document that academic readiness develops by letting kids play in a range of environments, and play with a number of age-appropriate materials, like crayons, play-doh, pixie sticks, blocks and the like.

So where, then, can we find all of what’s missing in the modern life of the young child? Go to a children’s museum.
