Japan-American Society of Georgia Inc

The Japan-America Society of Georgia (JASG) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to promote mutual understanding between the people of Japan and the state of Georgia through establishing and promoting ties and programs in the areas of business, culture, education, public affairs, and social networking. Our vision is to make Georgia the most desirable place in North America for Japanese and other international visitors to live and work – and to make Georgia’s citizens and businesses the most internationally aware in North America. 

We work with other international organizations and institutions to build appreciation of international culture and commerce in Georgia. At the same time, we have a unique and important part to play as the state's foremost bridge between Japan and Georgia, between Japanese visitors and Georgia's citizens, between Georgia's corporations and Japanese markets, and between Japanese and American individuals, students, and families in Georgia. We reach out to Japanese businesspeople and their families, anticipating and fulfilling their needs. We also reach out to Georgians, including government and civic leaders, with a message that international business and tourism are important to Georgia's future, and that understanding Japanese culture and business practices is a way of contributing to the state's growth. 

For Americans, The Japan-America Society of Georgia is the place where you will learn how to conduct business globally. That is because The Japan-America Society of Georgia brings together executives and managers from two of the world’s most accomplished business cultures – businesspeople who may be your customers, partners, vendors or competitors, here or abroad – to talk about issues affecting international business. You will learn about global business practices and the effect culture has on commerce, and you will gain confidence in your negotiations with other international businesspeople. The Japan-America Society of Georgia is also where you can learn about life in Japan, whether your interest is in making an occasional trip to Japan, borrowing facets of Japanese culture for your life in America, or renewing a lifelong connection with Japanese life. The Japan-America Society of Georgia has many programs and resources, and we make it easy and welcoming for you to choose the ones in which you want to participate. In all our programs, there are two goals: (1) to enlighten and interest you in Japanese life and culture; and (2) to introduce you to Japanese citizens and Japanese-Americans living in Georgia who can share their knowledge with you and build lasting friendships. Japan is one of Georgia’s leading investor nations and top trading partners. Approximately 39,000 Georgians are employed by over 600 Japanese-owned advanced manufacturing facilities and other businesses in communities across the state. Georgia exports to Japan total over $1.48 billion (2019). The Japan-America Society of Georgia is the place where you will connect with Japanese companies investing in Georgia, as well as learn how Georgia businesses can successfully engage with the Japanese market. 

For the Japanese, The Japan-America Society of Georgia is the place where you will learn about the American style of business and the American market and increase your worth to your company. This will be in an environment in which you will feel comfortable. The Japan-America Society of Georgia is also the place to learn how to make your family’s life in Georgia more enjoyable. Finally, through your membership and involvement, The Society is a tangible way of showing that your company is a good corporate citizen – and should be recognized as such. We are also where you can learn about life in Georgia and the U.S., whether your interest is acclimating to life in America in the short or long term or developing a lifelong connection with the American culture. The Japan-America Society of Georgia has many programs and resources, and we make it easy and welcoming for you to choose the ones in which you want to participate. In all our programs, there are two goals: (1) to enlighten and interest you in American life and culture; and (2) to introduce you to American citizens and other international individuals living in Georgia with similar interests to build lasting friendships.

Our programs, events and materials are targeted at groups interested in Japan and America for different reasons, but they have a common thread: They are enlightening, interesting, and welcoming. They seek not just to teach about Japanese or American culture and business practices, but to introduce Japanese and American individuals to one another with the purpose of forming lasting professional and personal relationships.
