Crisis Response & Postvention Cleanup

Suicide doesn’t just take lives—it leaves a wreckage behind that most people never see. In 2021 alone, 1,659 Georgians died by suicide, and 9,897 others survived a medically treated attempt. Georgia ranked 34th in suicide deaths nationwide in 2020, but statistics only tell part of the story.
In Metro Atlanta, the disparity is even more alarming: while white residents had the lowest death rates, Black and African American individuals died by suicide at the highest rate in the region. And yet, culturally competent, community-rooted support for Black suicide loss survivors and attempt survivors remains scarce.
The J Holman House was born from this gap—the silence, the shame, the cleanups no one talks about. We exist for the people who are left behind, not in theory, but in living rooms, funeral homes, and hospital beds. Because when a crisis hits, most families don’t just need a hotline—they need a human, in the room, willing to walk through the hardest moment of their life with them.
