π Empowering Scholars Through Technology: Help Us Bridge the Digital Divide! π
As we approach the season of giving, we are full of excitement and hope. This Giving Tuesday and Georgia Gives Day, we have a transformative goal in mind for our Horizons Atlanta site at Clark Atlanta University β and we need your support!
πβοΈ Our Mission and Impact
At Horizons Atlanta Clark Atlanta University, we believe that every child in metro Atlanta, regardless of background, should have the same chance at making a positive impact on their community and have equitable access to an exceptional educational career. Thanks to our supporters, we have been able to offer our tuition-free summer program to scholars every year since our launch in 2013, including a creative and thoughtful pivot to "Horizons at Home" during COVID.
This past summer we hosted a total of 127 scholars on our campus - 55 of them attending for their very first time - for six wonderful weeks of educational fun. During that time we provided 5,842 meals and snacks, ensured our scholars experienced 5 field trips, facilitated measurable gains in math and literacy, and worked on the life-saving skill of swimming and the life-changing impact of social-emotional awareness. Additionally, our work doesn't end when the school year begins! We continue to gather as a community during our βSATURDAY ADVENTURESβ program that includes literacy and STEAM activities, community building, and continued social-emotional support.
However, we are facing a critical challenge that threatens to hinder our mission: outdated technology.
π₯οΈ The Need: Chromebooks for Progress
Our scholars and dedicated site staff are currently working with outdated technology, limiting their access to crucial resources and hindering the learning experience. As we continue to grow in cohort size year after year, providing quality tools, time, and attention to each of our scholars becomes more difficult and more crucial. To address this challenge, we've set a goal to raise $10,000 by the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. With your support, we aim to purchase 50 Chromebooks that will revolutionize the way our scholars learn and how our staff can facilitate their educational journey.
π Why Chromebooks?
These Chromebooks will serve as more than just devices; they will be gateways to a world of knowledge, resources, and opportunities. By providing our scholars with up-to-date technology, we empower them to excel in our summer learning program as well as their regular school year and personal lives, bridging the digital divide that has the potential to hold them back compared to their peers if we do not step up to provide equitable access.
π©βπ« Supporting Staff for a Seamless Experience
Not only will these Chromebooks benefit our scholars, but they will also streamline testing requirements and enrollment processes for our hardworking staff. Past challenges related to technology have impeded our ability to provide a smooth and efficient experience. Your contribution will directly address this issue, ensuring that our dedicated staff can focus on what they do best β fostering an environment of growth and success.
π€ How You Can Help: Donate Today!
Your support is crucial to achieving our $10,000 goal and making a lasting impact on the lives of our scholars. Every dollar brings us one step closer to providing 50 Chromebooks and creating a more inclusive and technologically advanced learning environment.
π Donate now and be a part of our mission to build community, inspire minds, and nurture joy for these exceptional scholars from now until the their high school graduation!
Your generosity will echo through the halls of Clark Atlanta University, touching the lives of scholars who are ready to embrace the possibilities that modern technology can offer in their journey to realize their full potential and change the world. Together, let's make this Giving Tuesday a day of empowerment and transformation!
