Founded in 2001, HomeAid Atlanta is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to build new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach.

The Need:

  • More than 6,000 people are homeless in metro Atlanta on any given night
  • 88% are the "invisible homeless," sleeping in cars and motels
  • 11% of Georgia's homeless population are veterans
  • 50% of Georgia's homeless population are women
  • 40 % of Georgia's homeless population are families

HomeAid Atlanta's mission is to build new lives for families and individuals experiencing homelessness. HomeAid achieves that by constructing quality, dignified housing in partnership with metro Atlanta organizations that our neighbors in need. Since 2001, we have completed 142 projects (and counting) for nonprofits that serve victims of domestic violence, teen mothers, veterans and more. We also distribute essential baby supplies and hygiene products to people affected by homelessness. The result is more beds and services for people in need in metro Atlanta, like Emily.

HomeAid volunteers at My Sister's House on 10/11/19.Growing up in a dysfunctional home, Emily turned to alcohol and cocaine to cope. When she began using crack, she ended living under a bridge. She never felt safe and went days without eating or drinking. Eventually, weighing 90 lbs. and on the brink of death, she was arrested. At rock bottom, she decided to get help and turned to My Sister’s House at Atlanta Mission, where HomeAid Atlanta provided major facility upgrades in 2016 and 2019. There, Emily found a safe place to stay, counseling, help with doctor’s appointments, and rediscovered her personal faith. Because of My Sister’s House, she is no longer ashamed of herself. “Now I’m working two jobs, and I’m saving money to move into a place of my own. And God is restoring relationships with my family. I couldn’t be happier,” she says.
